Lip Silicone Removal

 

The injection of liquid silicone compounds (also known as ‘biopolymers’) can cause reactions that range from mild discomfort to grave complications. That is why their application in the aesthetic medicine field is forbidden in both Europe and the US: silicone use is only allowed in the form of implants.

Clínica Dual offers patients suffering such problems its knowledge and experience in plastic surgery, removing the silicone present in the lips and the surrounding tissues. The removal of silicone biopolymers from the lips involves a degree of difficulty, as they both penetrate the surrounding tissues as well as producing granulomas. Surgical intervention is usually the only means to eliminate the silicone. The surgeon must be very experienced, have great surgical dexterity and knowledge of anatomy to eliminate the highest quantity of biopolymer, while affecting the surrounding tissues as little as possible.

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthesia. After surgery, absorbable stitches are applied. Recovery is very fast and nearly painless. Swelling lasts about ten days and can be reduced by gently applying ice during the first days after surgery. Following a soft food diet so as to not overexert the lips, and avoiding physical exercise is recommended.
